What is the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)?

The Construction Industry Scheme is a tax deduction scheme for contractors and subcontractors involved in construction work.

If you’re a plumber or a plasterer, a painter or a decorator, a builder or an electrician, and you’re also a contractor, you have to register for the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). If you have subcontractors working for you, you should be deducting money from their pay and passing it to HMRC. These deductions count as advance payments towards the subcontractor’s tax and National Insurance. They also reduce your corporation tax.

Subcontractors don’t have register for the scheme, but deductions are taken from their payments at a higher rate if they’re not registered.

Tax returns that actually save you money

We’ve got over 18 years of experience in the construction industry so we know our way around the complicated world of subcontracting. It’s why so many construction contractors use us to manage their accounts (or maybe it’s because we manage to make it fun!)

Payroll

We’ll move you away from cash and set up your subcontractors on payroll. So you don’t overpay your subbies.

HMRC contributions

We’ll work out how much you have to deduct from your subcontractors and pay it to HMRC on your behalf. So you pay less corporation tax.

Monthly CIS returns

We’ll take care of your CIS returns every month. So they’re submitted on time and you don’t get fined.
